Main Gear Torque Links
WE ARE FINDING MOST OF THE AIRCRAFT
HAVE ACCUMULATED ENOUGH HOURS AND LANDINGS TO WARRANT INSPECTIONS OF THE TORQUE
LINK PIN HOLES. THE INSIDE BORES ARE CORRODED AND THE STRUT MATERIAL HAS WORN
ENOUGH THAT THE PIN IS LOOSE. THIS CAN BE FOUND BY DEFLATING THE STRUT (400 HR.
INSP. ITEM) AND SHIFTING THE LOWER STRUT SIDE TO SIDE. WATCH THE PIN AND SEE IF
IT MOVES IN THE BORE. THIS CAN BE REPAIRED BY INSTALLING A STEEL SLEEVE IN THE
HOLE BOTH IN THE UPPER BODY AND THE LOWER STRUT. IT REQUIRES THE REMOVAL OF THE
LOWER STRUT AND MACHINING THE BORE AND THE UPPER BODY CAN BE REWORKED ON THE
WING USING A TOOL DEVELOPED BY US. BOTH SLEEVES MUST BE INSTALLED WITH THE AID
OF LIQUID NITROGEN. THIS WILL ELIMINATE ANY FURTHER DAMAGE FROM CORROSION AND
ALLOWS ANY FURTHER SHIMMING FOR CLEARANCES TO LAST LONGER WITHOUT POUNDING OUT
THE SHIM STOCK.
